General Motors: 4300 dealers in the US

Update to my earlier post: GM currently has 4300 dealers, so roughly 10 times Mitsubishi's U.S. dealer count.

    Source: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...452221502.html

That should help put Spark vs. Mirage sales in perspective.

One thought though: I suspect GM has a significant percentage of dealerships outside of sub/urban areas (think of all those pickup sales), whereas Mitsu is probably exclusively sub/urban. By this theory, Mitsu should be able to show better results selling a city car on a per dealer basis.

    Another tidbit:

U.S. dealers have already placed 6,600 orders for the car.

I was under the impression that Mitsu sends a certain amount of cars to the dealers. Is that incorrect? Do the dealers HAVE to order the cars they receive ?

I believe the number represents actual sales, not dealer orders. That's the industry standard for reporting monthly figures.

    Annualized, 475 Mirages = 5700 cars.

Also from that link, apparently not all the dealers had availability...

Yokozawa added, "We are looking forward to November with great anticipation. Mirage will be reaching dealerships in many additional markets ..."

Many dealers didn't have enough cars to sell before mid of October. In the beginning of that month I saw about 50 registered cars on Cars.com. Now, there are about 900.

    Was wondering...

What car would those 475 people have bought in October if they hadn't bought a Mirage?

Monthly Spark sales for last month were at a low for this year. Could just be a coincidence, though. http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2012/08...s-figures.html

Oct: 209 Mirages sold in Canada

first full month of sales for the all-new Mirage netted 209 deliveries for the all-new subcompact.

At 1/10th the population of the U.S., that's relatively decent. We like our small cars in the Great White North.

Virtual tie with Chevrolet Spark, which sold 217 here last month.

Well one thing to remember about MMNA is it's scaling back production to meet demand in the US and UK. so sales projections are low. The new 2014 outlander is only projected to sell 15000 per year. It competes in a segment where the best seller sells about 10x that much per year, it's very low. The outlander sport was only supposed to sell 6000-8000 per year when it was launched but it blew those expectations. This is how I'm confident MMNA is here to stay, they are posting realistic sales estimates based on demand. It's not like MMNA is saying it's going to sell 300,000 mirages per year, then I'd say uh oh.

Considering November is apparently the first month of "full" availability in the U.S., it'll be interesting to see this month's Mirage numbers next week.
